RapidShare is an online file storage service that lets you upload multiple files and generate private download links you can use to share that content with anyone.
Uploading files to Rapidshare is easy as pie: simply select the file and click the “Upload” button. You can also use the Flash-based upload manager, which allows you to upload up to three files at the same time. The size limit for RapidShare files is 500 MB, but you can split up larger archives if necessary.
The Free account in RapidShare has some limitations: files can only be downloaded 10 times and the RapidShare links are erased after 60 days of inactivity. The RapidShare Premium account, on the other side, is much faster.
Signing up for RapidShare is free and helps you manage files in a much more organized way. On the downside, many of the Premium services must be paid with Rapids, the RapidShare credit system that allows you to buy more storage space and bandwidth.

Parser Parameter
method has an optional parameter :parser which specifies how to
parse the response from Rapidshare. (Rapidshare doesn’t unified API, there are
several «types» of responses.) Following options are supported at the moment:
- :none — default, returns response body as it is
- :csv — parses response like CSV file into array of arrays
- :hash — parses response like a hash — key=value strings separated by newlines
Example:
rs.request(:getaccountdetails, :parser => :hash)
PS: cookie is automatically added if you call request method on a instance.
Method Missing
Let’s say you want to call service for which rapidshare gem doesn’t have
dedicated method yet, for example: getrapidtranslogs . While you can
explicitly call method:
rs.request(:getrapidtranslogs, :parser => 'csv')
the cooler way is to make a service call using :
rs.getrapidtranslogs(:parser => 'csv')
If you call an uknown method on instance, assumes
that you want to make a service call to Rapidshare and invokes the
method, using the missing method name as service name and passing any available
params. For example:
rs.getrapidtranslogs(:parser => 'csv')
invokes
rs.request(:getrapidtranslogs, :parser => 'csv')
also removes any underscores from the service name, so these
method calls are equivalent:
rs.getrapidtranslogs == rs.get_rapid_trans_logs
PS: This is used for aliasing dedicated methods as well:
invokes . In this case the corresponding dedicated
method is called instead of low-level method, because we check for
existense of dedicated method first.

RapidShare offered two computer programs to simplify file managing:
This software allowed queuing of uploads. However, it could not resume interrupted uploads. It was available for Windows and ran without installation.
This software had many more features than the Uploader, especially queuing and resuming the upload as well as the downloads. The version linked on the site worked with Windows Vista and , Mac, and Linux. An older official client was also available for Windows XP.
RapidShare did not restrict automatic downloads to their downloader, however, they did not provide technical support to third-party downloaders as they did for RapidShare Manager.[citation needed]

History
RapidShare was founded by Christian Schmid in Mulheim, Germany, initially as ezShare later Rapid Share, a file hosting service for his RapidForum web forum hosting services. In 2004, he started the company RapidShare AG, which went online in August 2004 then moved its premises to Baar, Switzerland in 2006. Schmid avoids the public eye, but took over management of the company after longtime CEO and COO Bobby Chang left in April 2010.
RapidShare’s original site was RapidShare.de. Later a second site, RapidShare.com, was started. It operated in parallel with RapidShare.de for several years. On 1 March 2010, RapidShare.de was shut down, and users visiting the site were forwarded to RapidShare.com. Files hosted on RapidShare.de were no longer available for download.
In 2010, RapidShare was said to have hundreds of millions of visitors per month and to be among the 50 most popular Internet sites.
Lawsuits by the owners of copyrighted content shared via RapidShare, and the takedown of file hoster Megaupload, caused RapidShare to revise its business model. The company changed its focus to B2B cloud storage services, but a drop in revenue led to a reduction in staffing by three quarters in May 2013. By 2014 its Alexa ranking had sunk below 1,400.
In late February 2014, the website PCTipp.ch, based on reports from a former RapidShare employee «MarkusP,» stated that RapidShare had presented a «quit or be fired» ultimatum to 23 of its 24 employees (already down from 60 employees just two years before) and that most had resigned. The rest, save one, had their contracts terminated. As of mid-March, RapidShare was reported as operating with only one employee, a support person who answered the telephone and managed customers and accounts. The product development team was no more. On 13 March 2014, RapidShare announced price increases for its paid services of about 150%. Free users would continue to be able to use RapidShare, but their download speeds and capacity were sharply curtailed.
On 10 February 2015, RapidShare announced on its home page that it would shut down its services permanently on 31 March 2015. After that date none of the data it hosted would be available, even to the customers who uploaded it. On 31 March 2015, the site home page displayed a notice about the service’s closing.

То есть, теперь можно закачивать файлы любого размера и после окончания сразу приступать к следующему. Но нужно подчеркнуть, что при этом значительно сократилась скорость скачивания (до 50 КБ/с).
С сентября 2008 года возможности скачивания для пользователей без премиум-аккаунта были снова урезаны — скорость снижена до 25 КБ/с (в зависимости от загрузки сети), а задержки перед скачиванием снова включены. В декабре 2008 скорость возросла до 2 Мбит/с, однако, она не гарантируется (при загруженности каналов приоритет у премиум-аккаунтов). Была убрана капча и сокращено время ожидания между закачками.
С июня 2010 года был введён ряд ограничений. При первых нескольких скачиваниях с одного IP-адреса ожидание вообще отсутствует, однако, при последующих скачиваниях появляется время ожидания, которое с каждой попыткой увеличивается (вплоть до нескольких минут). Премиум-аккаунты теперь не имеют временного ограничения. Введены очки (rapids), которые списываются в зависимости от выбранного тарифного плана (в том числе и за хранение файлов).

Aunque rapidshare alojaba diferentes y variados contenidos, uno de los métodos utilizados para proteger su contenido es no ofrecer un buscador propio de enlaces de descarga. Gracias a ello han proliferado en la red multitud de buscadores específicos que permiten encontrar los enlaces que de otro modo se encontrarían esparcidos por toda la red (especialmente en foros especializados) y sin los cuales rapidshare no podría ofrecer un sistema coherente de descarga. Entre los mismos podemos encontrar multitud de buscadores basados en ‘búsquedas personalizadas google’ o buscadores exclusivamente dedicados a estos servicios.
