Notes
- Resetting a vehicle during a pursuit will automatically bust the player (unless the police units are very far away).
- The Speedbreaker is one of the most useful tools for players to use within pursuits as it allows them to make quick changes in direction and scout roadblocks.
- Police vehicles are instantly destroyed after a flipover, although sometimes it is not the case if one happens to be flipped by another police unit or by a traffic vehicle.
- In Need for Speed: Carbon, players get a small time setback in Cooldown mode if they are located near a police vehicle.
- The choice of vehicle should be taken into consideration when engaging in police pursuits; Heavy vehicles are useful for ramming through roadblocks but may be inferior in their handling capabilities. Sports cars are useful for swerving out of the way of SUV units as well as quick getaways due to their nimbleness and speed but are not suited for ramming through roadblocks or oncoming SUVs.
- Cross will always stay near the player once he has appeared in a pursuit but he will not bust the player if they have stopped their vehicle. He will instead stay a short distance away from the player’s vehicle.
- Large trucks carrying loose cargo can be rammed to cause their loads to fall onto the road in Need for Speed: Carbon and Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Police vehicles will instantly stop or be destroyed in Need for Speed: Carbon.
- Police vehicles in front of the player will likely be preparing for a rolling roadblock.
- In exclusive high heat level pursuits, the dispatch announces the heat condition as 5, despite the heat level being higher than 5.
- It is easier for players to ram through roadblocks if they collide with the rear of police vehicles as the front is heavier.
- Cop vehicles can not be affected by spike strips. The same is true for traffic vehicles.
- The police in Most Wanted, Carbon, and the PlayStation 2/Nintendo Wii releases of Undercover use the same police siren sounds. The PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 releases of Undercover as well as World also share different sirens to the previous titles.

Supercharged
The Supercharged Rhino Unit is a high speed police SUV. These units appear at Heat Level 6 alongside Chevrolet Corvette Federal Undercover Cruisers in Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Need for Speed: Carbon.
They appear in a special Black Edition Challenge in Need for Speed: Most Wanted as the only vehicles at Heat Level 7. They appear in a few special Need for Speed: Carbon Challenges at Heat Level seven and eight alongside Undercover Federal Cruisers.
They are utilised as roadblocks. They will attempt to stop the player by ramming head on into them at high speed, ramming them off the road and boxing them in. They are capable of keeping up with players at very high speeds. Supercharged Rhino Units are worth $25,000.
Gameplay
Need for Speed: World is set within the fictional Tri-City. The location is a mixture of Rockport from Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Palmont City from Need for Speed: Carbon.

Players are offered a Lucky Draw Card Pack after completing an event or finishing a police pursuit.
Free Roam
Players are allowed to drive around both Palmont City and Rockport within free roam. Players can see other players driving around in free roam but are unable to collide with them in any manner.
were removed from free roam on November 16th, 2011 resulting in players no longer being able to initiate pursuits by ramming police vehicles. Police chases are only possible by joining Pursuit Outrun events.
Event Types
Need for Speed: World features a variety of gamemodes:
- Drag — Multiplayer Only
- Circuit
- Meeting Place
- Pursuit Outrun — Singleplayer Only

Trivia
- «The Need for Speed» is a quote by Peter «Maverick» Mitchell in Top Gun, a 1986 action drama film directed by Tony Scott about United States Naval Officers training at the U.S. Navy’s Fighter Weapons School. It stars Tom Cruise as Peter «Maverick» Mitchell, and Anthony Edwards as Nick «Goose» Bradshaw, whom share a line of dialogue prior to a training exercise; «I feel the need… the need for speed!»
- The Black Edition of Need for Speed: Most Wanted was released to mark the series’ 10th anniversary.
- Need for Speed: Heat marks the series’ 25th anniversary.
- Early entries in the V-Rally series are often mistaken for being part of the Need for Speed series. They were published by Infogrames, and developed by one of its teams which would later become Eden Games. However, Electronic Arts bought the publishing rights to the series for North America and associated it with their Need for Speed brand to make up for the lacking interest for rallying at the time within the United States:
- V-Rally, published in Europe by Infogrames for the PlayStation in July 1997 as V-Rally: Championship Edition, was published in North America by Electronic Arts for the PlayStation on November 4, 1997 as Need for Speed: V-Rally.
- V-Rally 2, published in Europe by Infogrames for the PlayStation on June 30, 1999 as V-Rally Championship Edition 2, was published in North America by Electronic Arts for the PlayStation on November 16, 1999 as Need for Speed: V-Rally 2, and later published in North America by Infogrames for the Dreamcast on October 18, 2000 as Test Drive V-Rally.
Trivia
- Traffic models from the game were reimported from Criterion Games’ .
- The slowest tier of cars began with Tier 1 in Need for Speed: Carbon, but this is reversed in Need for Speed: Undercover.
- There is a mission titled «Transporter» in which the player has to deliver a package whilst driving an Audi S5. The title is a reference to the 2005 movie — Transporter 2.
- Need for Speed: Undercover is dedicated to the memories of Inderjeet «indy» Johal and Martin Sikes. Sikes was the co-founder of Black Box Games and Johal was an engineering director involved with Black Box for several years.
- Undercover was the last Need for Speed title until Need for Speed: The Run to be heavily involved with a plot and characters.
- Undercover is the last Need for Speed title to use the fictional Police Civic Cruisers first seen in Need for Speed: Most Wanted.
- Undercover is the last Need for Speed title to be released for the PlayStation 2.

Vehicles
Main article: Need for Speed: The Run/Cars
Vehicles in Need for Speed: The Run are divided into performance tiers and fitted with visual modifications. These pre-tuned vehicles are branded as special edition vehicles, namely Signature Edition and NFS Edition vehicles. Compared to their stock counterparts, they are performance tuned and often ranked in higher tiers.
The handling of each car is also given either an Easy, Normal, Challenging, Very Difficult or Expert difficulty rating. Some vehicles are restricted to The Run mode. In this mode and during a race event, players can also swap their vehicle in gas stations, which are placed in certain locations.
A Team Need for Speed BMW Z4 GT3 can be unlocked in the game so long as the player has played Shift 2 Unleashed, Hot Pursuit (2010), World or Undercover.
Customisation
Need for Speed: The Run’s producer — Alex Grimbley denied that Need for Speed: The Run would feature any form of vehicle customisation.
This statement was retracted after some trailers and screenshots of the game featured visually modified vehicles.
A Gamespot trailer released on November 2nd, 2011 features official confirmation that body kits and selectable body paints can be placed on vehicles.
In Need for Speed: The Run, players can equip body kits on to their vehicles and also paint the vehicles. There are cosmetic body kits known as Style Pack kits and Aero Pack kits. Visual customisation can be performed in gas stations and in the View Cars mode.
Equipment
Road Block
The time required to co-ordinate and set up a blockade will be a factor in how the FVPD is able to manipulate or deter the escape options for a suspect.
Spike Strip
They are laid out with the intention of appearing like an escape route for a suspect to lure them across the laid out strip and deflate their tyres. The tyres of any vehicle running over a spike strip will be shredded, allowing FVPD units to pin that vehicle more easily.
FVPD units are fitted with run-flat tyres that are designed to remain rigid in the same manner as an inflated tyre after being punctured.
Killswitch
A lock on will take time to achieve after a suspect has been targeted, but this can be interrupted or evaded by ramming the unit using the killswitch.
A suspect vehicle that has been hit with a killswitch will have its engine deactivated for a short period of time before its ignition is restored and its engine can start again.

Игровой процесс Need of Speed

Trivia
- The player always logs in the rap sheet with Cross’ account.
- The database oddly shows that the number of police vehicles immobilised by Razor and Taz in a single pursuit is higher than their highest number of police vehicles involved.
- The number of times the player has been busted during the final plot-related pursuit of the game is still counted, even though the pursuit automatically restarts if the player is busted. The best way to prevent this is to manually restart or quit the pursuit if the player is about to be caught.

Light
The Light Rhino Unit is the smallest police SUV. It has no bull bars across its front grille, it has the lowest suspension, different road tyres and standard police rims. These units appear at Heat Level 3 alongside Pontiac GTO State Cruisers in Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Need for Speed: Carbon and Need for Speed: World.
They are utilised as roadblocks and will attempt to stop the player by ramming head on into them. Light Rhino Units are worth $10,000.
The Light Rhino units are the easiest to disable as they are lighter by comparison to the other Rhino units, are unable to change direction quickly and easily flip over when hit with sufficient speed.
