How To Store Guacamole

This simple guacamole recipe actually keeps really well in the refrigerator if stored properly.  To store it, just transfer your guac to an airtight container.  Then place a piece of plastic wrap directly on top of the guac, and press it down with your fingers so that the plastic wrap is covering the entire surface area of the guac (keeping the air out, which will help prevent browning).  Then just cover, and refrigerate for up to 1 week.

Enjoy, everyone!

Description

Truly the BEST guacamole recipe!  It’s quick and easy to make, naturally gluten-free and vegan, and always the hit of a party.  See tips above for potential ways to customize your own guacamole recipe.

Scale
1x2x3x

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe avocados, peeled and pitted
  • 1 jalapeño, cored and finely diced (add more or less to taste)
  • 1/2 cup finely diced red onion
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/3 cup fresh cilantro leaves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • (Optional: 1 roma tomato, cored and chopped)

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, use a fork or a potato masher to mash the avocados to your desired consistency.
  2. Stir in the jalapeño, onion, lime juice, cilantro, salt, cumin until well-mixed.  (If adding tomatoes, stir them in at the very end.)
  3. Taste and season with extra salt (plus extra lime juice, jalapeño and/or cilantro) if needed.
  4. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Storage Instructions: To store this guacamole, cover the bowl with plastic wrap (so that the plastic is literally touching the entire top layer of the guacamole) and refrigerate for up to 2 days before serving.

SSH/SFTP improvements

Guacamole’s support for SSH has been updated to include support for keep-alive
packets, allowing the connection to be kept alive despite lack of user input
when the SSH server is set to otherwise terminate such connections. Problems
with connecting to SSH servers at IPv6 addresses and with proper handling of
incorrect private keys have also been addressed.

If SFTP is being used for file transfer, whether for SSH, VNC, or RDP, the
directory used as the top-level (root) directory can now be configured,
isolating access to a particular directory and its subdirectories
rather than exposing the entire filesystem.

  • GUACAMOLE-203 — Implementing ServerAliveInterval to keep SSH session alive
  • GUACAMOLE-303 — Allow SFTP root directory to be configured
  • GUACAMOLE-396 — guacd cannot connect to ssh servers with IPv6 addresses
  • GUACAMOLE-400 — Connection segfaults when SSH private key fails to load

Contributing

If you believe you have a feature or bug fix that would benefit the project, or
simply wish to help other users, please feel free to subscribe to and use the
. To ensure issues are properly
tracked and development effort is not duplicated, all bugs or proposed
development should be reported by opening a new ticket in our
JIRA.

Code contributions are also always welcome, but do have to go through a review
process. The code will more than likely be discussed and sent back a few times
in order to bring the style and implementation in line with the rest of the
Guacamole codebase.

If you are planning to contribute code, please keep in mind that the point of
contributing is to collaborate for the benefit of the project and its
community; it is a service you are choosing to provide because you believe, as
the members of the Guacamole project believe, that doing so works toward the
greater good. It is thus important to remember:

  1. Expect honest and constructive criticism. It is a good thing.
  2. A project’s processes exist for a reason. The goal of contributing is to
    work with the project for the common good, not fight against it.
  3. Develop against the most recent code on git. Patches against releases and
    naive copies of entire files cannot be accepted as they lack context and
    are likely out of date.
  4. Code must follow consistent style or it will become unreadable and
    unmaintainable. Please read through our style guidelines and,
    when in doubt, follow the style of the code you are modifying.

Extension API changes

Session and server shutdown hooks

The

and

interfaces now define an function which is invoked when the
associated user session is being terminated due to logout, expiration, or
server shutdown. Because these new functions are defined at the
interface level, implementations of these interfaces will now need to define
these functions:

Similarly, the

interface now defines a
function which is invoked upon server shutdown. As with the new
function, this function is defined at the interface level and will need to be
implemented by all classes implementing :

AuthenticationProvider.shutdown()

Deprecation of

The

interface and

class have been deprecated, replaced by the more generic

interface and

class. Extensions using the old interface or class will continue to build, but
should be migrated over to the newer API as soon as possible.

Additional history functions for and

The

and

interfaces now define essentially the same pair of
and functions, as both types of objects now
have associated history within the extension API. For , the only
new function here is :

Connection.getLastActive()

History tracking of users is entirely
new, however, and implementations of will need to define both functions:

Note that extensions are not required to implement history tracking; if the
extension will not implement or expose such tracking, the implementations of
these functions can simply return nothing.

Sound, printing, and file transfer fixed on Windows 2012

Windows Server 2012 suffers from a bug which requires both RDPDR (drive
redirection or printing) and RDPSND (audio) to be loaded for either to work,
even if both are not actually needed. Past releases of Guacamole had a workaround
for this which automatically loaded RDPDR if audio was enabled, but this
workaround did not apply in the other direction. If audio was disabled,
printing and file transfer would mysteriously not work.

As of Guacamole 0.9.9, both RDPSND and RDPDR will always be loaded if either is
enabled. File transfer, printing, and sound should all work under Windows
Server 2012, regardless of which combination of those features is enabled.

— RDPSND and RDPDR must be loaded together

Guacamole protocol changes

Deprecation of the instruction

The
instruction was created in the early days of the Guacamole protocol as a means
of splitting up large instructions. At the time, this was necessary because
images and audio were transmitted within instructions that required the entire
block of data to be available at once. The instruction thus provided a
means of streaming data for instructions that otherwise did not support it.

The Guacamole protocol switched over instructions with actual stream semantics
around the 0.9.0 release (back in 2014). Since that time, the
instruction has become unnecessary, and is actually no longer used in practice.

The instruction is now marked as deprecated. It is still supported by
the JavaScript Guacamole client, but support can be expected to be removed in a
future release. Downstream usages of the Guacamole protocol which still use the
instruction should cease using it.

GUACAMOLE-661 — Deprecate “nest” instruction

Changes to the Guacamole protocol handshake

The
has been expanded with a new
instruction to allow the Guacamole client to forward the user’s local timezone
through to the remote desktop. As the addition of a new handshake instruction
would normally make the new version of the protocol incompatible with older
versions, the handshake has also been modified to allow the Guacamole protocol
version to be negotiated, and to allow flexibility in the overall handshake:
handshake-specific instructions may now be sent in any order or omitted
entirely.

As these changes were made such that compatibility is preserved, downstream
usages of the Guacamole protocol should continue to work, however such usages
should be brought up to date when possible.

  • GUACAMOLE-422 — Timezone Redirection
  • GUACAMOLE-629 — Stream protocol argument values

Commercial Support

Companies providing support for Apache Guacamole are not endorsed by the Apache
Software Foundation, though some such companies do employ committers of the
Apache Guacamole project.

  • Arcisphere is a software engineering firm which started working with Guacamole
    to provide product training. They continue to provide assistance with Guacamole
    installation and general product usage, and love to share the success they have
    had with both commercial and open software products.

  • Glyptodon Inc.

    Glyptodon Inc. was founded in 2013 by the original authors of the Guacamole
    project to fill the growing demand for commercial support. Glyptodon believes
    strongly in open source software, and is dedicated to contributing all
    Guacamole changes back to the project and community.

LDAP improvements

Guacamole’s LDAP support can now be used with more complex directory
hierarchies, such as those used by Active Directory. In addition to directly
deriving a user’s DN using a base DN and username attribute, Guacamole can now
search for and discover a user’s DN when given the necessary credentials to do
so. This allows users to be mapped even if their DNs do not contain usernames.

Encrypted LDAP can now also be used. Past releases supported only unencrypted
LDAP connections, but communication with LDAP servers using SSL/TLS or STARTTLS
is now fully supported.

  • — Support complex LDAP organizational structures
  • — Support for LDAP over SSL/TLS
  • — Passthrough authentication not working for LDAP in 0.9.8

Installing Guacamole Client

guacamole-client contains all Java and JavaScript components of Guacamole (guacamole, guacamole-common, guacamole-ext, and guacamole-common-js). These components make up the web application that will serve the HTML5 Guacamole client to users that connect to your server. This web application will then connect to guacd on behalf of connected users in order to serve them any remote desktop they are authorized to access.

In this tutorial, we are going to install the binary form of the guacamole-client. If you want to build it from the source code, see how to do so here.

To download the client, run the command below. You can check the latest version from the releases page.

wget http://archive.apache.org/dist/guacamole/0.9.14/binary/guacamole-0.9.14.war

Deploying Guacamole Client

Once the download above is done, it is time to deploy Guacamole.

Create Guacamole configuration directory

mkdir /etc/guacamole

Move the download guacamole-client binary to the configuration file created above as shown below;

mv guacamole-0.9.14.war /etc/guacamole/guacamole.war

Create a symbolic link of the guacamole client to Tomcat webapps directory as shown below;

ln -s /etc/guacamole/guacamole.war /var/lib/tomcat8/webapps/

Once the file is in place, you may need to restart Tomcat to force Tomcat to deploy the new web application, and the guacd daemon must be started if it isn’t running already

systemctl restart tomcat8
systemctl restart guacd

Fixes for CAS support

With the recent addition of support for single sign-on using CAS, it was
discovered that the parameter token will not be populated in
cases where the user was authenticated against the CAS extension. This has now
been fixed, and the token will always be populated for all
users that have successfully authenticated through any mechanism.

Issues with the behavior of the Guacamole settings/preferences screen when the
CAS extension is installed, and with overall error handling and logging with
respect to CAS, have also been addressed. The settings/preferences screen
should now function normally, and errors from the CAS server should now be
correctly logged.

  • GUACAMOLE-341 — GUAC_USERNAME token not defined if using SSO
  • GUACAMOLE-355 — CAS Module Missing Error Handling
  • GUACAMOLE-358 — CAS Authentication issue handling sessions

Guacamole Add-Ins:

Want to customize your own personal best guacamole recipe?  There are all sorts of fun ingredients you can add in, such as:

  • Fruit: such as mango, pineapple, pomegranate, berries, apple, peaches, grapes, you name it!
  • Chopped nuts: such as pepitas, toasted almonds, cashews, etc.
  • Cheese: any soft cheeses such as feta, goat, blue cheese or queso fresco are delicious
  • Additional seasonings: I love adding everything bagel seasoning to my guac
  • Greek yogurt or sour cream: if you’d like creamier homemade guacamole
  • Chopped chipotle in adobo: if you’d like a smokier chipotle guacamole
  • Additional chopped chile peppers: if you would like an even more spicy guacamole
  • Bacon or chorizo: because…yum

Ingredients

Guacamole dip is traditionally made by mashing ripe avocados and sea salt with a molcajete y tejolote (mortar and pestle). Recipes often call for lime juice, cilantro, and jalapeños. Some non-traditional recipes may call for sour cream, tomatoes, basil, or peas.

Due to the presence of polyphenol oxidase in the cells of avocado, exposure to oxygen in the air causes an enzymatic reaction and develops melanoidin pigment, turning the sauce brown. This result is generally considered unappetizing, and there are several methods (some anecdotal) that are used to counter this effect, such as storing the guacamole in an air-tight container or wrapping tightly in plastic to limit the surface area exposed to the air.

Install Guacamole server and client

This guide is based on the Guacamole manual. Please check it out to know more about what you are doing. The most important part when installing is chapter 2 – installing Guacamole nativley.

Install dependencies for Debian

Check the manual what dependencies you may possible need – this is for basic SSH, VNC and RDP support.

$ sudo apt install libcairo2-dev libjpeg62-turbo-dev libpng-dev libtool-bin libossp-uuid-dev freerdp2-dev libpango1.0-dev libssh2-1-dev libvncserver-dev libssl-dev libwebp-dev make

Go to the download page to download the source code for Apache Guacamole 1.1.0.

Then use the following commands.

$ tar -xzf guacamole-server-1.1.0.tar.gz
$ cd guacamole-server-1.1.0/
$ ./configure --with-init-dir=/etc/init.d

Once you have run the above configure-command, you’ll se what libraries was found and what the server supports – please see the manual, chapter 2 for more information.

$ make
$ sudo make install

Now the server should be installed. You can start it by running the following command (please note that you with this guide have to enter this command every time you restart your server):

$ sudo guacd

Download and deploy the Apache Guacamole 1.1.0 client (guacamole-client)

Go to the download page to download the prebuilt version of guacamole client (guacamole-1.1.0.war).

Change the name of the file once downloaded.

$ mv guacamole-1.1.0.war guacamole.war

Copy it to the webapps directory of Apache Tomcat. If you followed the Digital Ocean guide then you would use the following command.

$ sudo cp guacamole.war /opt/tomcat/webapps/

Then restart the Apache Tomcat-server.

$ sudo service tomcat restart

The above command could be different if you installed Apache Tomcat in another way.

  • авокадо – 7 шт.;
  • лук репчатый – 1 небольшая головка;
  • свежая кинза (кориандр) – 1 пучок;
  • чеснок – 3 зубчика;
  • соль – ⅔ ч. л.;
  • помидоры – 2 шт.;

  • авокадо – 5 шт.;
  • лайм – 1 шт. (можно заменить лимоном);
  • лук-шалот – 2 шт.;
  • перец чили (по желанию) – маленький стручок;
  • кинза или петрушка – 1 пучок;
  • оливковое масло – 5 ст. л.;

  • кислые яблоки – 2 шт.;
  • авокадо – 4 шт.;
  • свежие средние огурцы – 2 шт.;
  • лайм – 1 шт.;
  • красный лук – 1 головка;

Guacamole Variations

Once you have basic guacamole down, feel free to experiment with variations including strawberries, peaches, pineapple, mangoes, even watermelon. One classic Mexican guacamole has pomegranate seeds and chunks of peaches in it (a Diana Kennedy favorite). You can get creative with homemade guacamole!

  • Simple Guacamole: The simplest version of guacamole is just mashed avocados with salt. Don’t let the lack of availability of other ingredients stop you from making guacamole.
  • Quick guacamole: For a very quick guacamole just take a 1/4 cup of salsa and mix it in with your mashed avocados.
  • Don’t have enough avocados? To extend a limited supply of avocados, add either sour cream or cottage cheese to your guacamole dip. Purists may be horrified, but so what? It tastes great.

Here are a few other guacamole recipes to try:

  • Spicy Three-Chile Guacamole
  • Strawberry Guacamole
  • Guacamole with Charred Sweet Corn, Bacon, and Tomato
  • Copycat Chipotle Guacamole
  • Bacon and Blue Cheese Guacamole

Hostname logging within database

The hostname/address of users logged by the database authentication backend is
now determined entirely by the servlet container. The database authentication
will not manually parse the header, and will instead rely on
the servlet container to perform any such parsing.

If proxying Guacamole, the configuration of your servlet container should be
updated to handle the headers set by your proxy. For Apache Tomcat, this is
accomplished with a
in your .

Logging of hostnames/addresses by Guacamole during the authentication process
(as would be parsed by tools like fail2ban) is unchanged, however you will need
to update the pattern if or similar are used, as the address of
interest will likely be the rightmost address. If the user is not behind any
additional, untrusted proxies, the address of interest will be the only
address.
