Duo Push

Duo Push is the easiest and quickest way of authenticating. You’ll get a login request sent to your phone — just press Approve to authenticate.

If you get a login request that you weren’t expecting, press Deny to reject the request. You’ll be given the ability to report it as fraudulent, or you can tap It was a mistake to deny the request without reporting it.

Duo Push and Notifications

You can respond to Duo Push requests from the iOS lock screen or banner notification starting with Duo Mobile version 3.8. The actions presented to you when you respond to the notification depend on your organization’s Duo policy settings, such as whether or not you can approve the login request without PIN or biometric verification.

On Apple devices that support 3D Touch, performing a firm longpress on the Duo Mobile notification from the lock screen reveals the «Approve» or «Deny» actions. Tap an action and supply your passcode or biometric verification (face or fingerprint) to complete the action.

On devices that do not feature 3D Touch, swipe left on the lock screen Duo Mobile notification to reveal additional actions.

When your screen is unlocked, long-press or swipe down on the Duo Mobile banner notification received to reveal the authentication actions.

Face ID

You can approve Duo authentication requests with Face ID on your iPhone X with Duo Mobile 3.19 and later. If your Duo admin requires biometric verification when approving Duo requests you’ll see the Face ID icon in the Duo Push request.

The first time you receive a Duo Push request on your iPhone X that requires biometric verification, you’ll be prompted to grant Face ID permission to the Duo Mobile app. Tap OK to proceed.

Scan your face in the same manner that you use to unlock your iPhone X to approve the Duo login request.

If your first try isn’t successful, tap Try Face ID Again to scan your face again.

If you’re not able approve the login request with Face ID you can tap Cancel and approve the Duo authentication request using the device’s passcode.

Touch ID

Duo Mobile 3.7 and later for iOS also supports Touch ID for Duo Push-based logins as an additional layer of security to verify user identity. If you’re using a Touch ID capable iOS device you’ll see a Touch ID prompt each time you authenticate via Duo Mobile (if required by your administrator).

If you’re not able to scan your fingerprint using the TouchID sensor you can also approve the Duo authentication request using the device’s passcode by tapping Cancel.

Knock Knock позволяет увидеть собеседника еще до принятия вызова. Работает эта возможность при условии, если оба абонента активировали эту опцию в настройках приложения. Кроме этого, вызывающий абонент должен быть добавлен в список контактов собеседника. 

Duo может работать с устройствами, которые имеют две основные камеры на борту, как например LG G5 или Huawei P9 — приложение корректно переключается между ними и фронтальной камерой. Помимо этого, при звонках в Duo есть возможность менять приоритет отображения картинки в главном окне: это может быть изображение собеседника или изображение своей камеры. По началу выглядит несколько запутанно, но, если разобраться — на самом деле очень удобно. 

Одной из ключевых особенностей мессенджера Duo является способность приспосабливаться к интернету. При Wi-Fi-соединении приложение может дополнительно задействовать еще и передачу мобильных данных, чтобы бесшовно переключаться между Wi-Fi и мобильным интернетом. Если соединение плохое — разрешение картинки снижается, передача видео может приостанавливаться, Duo предложит и вовсе отключить камеру (как и при низком заряде батареи), но при этом связь не прерывается. В целом звонки вполне стабильные, даже при не очень хорошем интернете. Голосовая передача, в большинстве своем, отличная.

Как установить приложение

Андроид

Чтобы скачать сервис на смартфон или планшет под управлением ОС Android, необходимо внизу страницы сайта Гугл Дуо кликнуть на кнопку “Доступно в Google Play”.

Далее выполните 9 действий:

1. В Play Маркете нажмите “Установить”.
2. После завершения инсталляции тапните “Открыть”.
3. Если у вас есть аккаунт в Google, тогда нажмите “Предоставить доступ”.
4. Чтобы дать доступ к контактам тапните “Разрешить”.
5. Выберите вариант “Разрешить”, чтобы дать добро на осуществление телефонных звонков и управление ими.
6. Введите номер телефона и нажмите “Принять”.
7. Теперь в специальное поле впишите код, полученный при помощи СМС.
8. Разрешите приложению производить съемку фото и видео.
9. Дайте согласие на запись аудио.

Вот и все! Теперь можно звонить контактам, у которых тоже установлено приложение. Тем, у кого его еще нет, можно предложить его скачать. Для этого нужно воспользоваться кнопкой “Пригласить” напротив имени и номера человека.

iOS

Для установки программы на мобильное устройство от компании Apple первым делом нужно на странице сервиса нажать кнопку “Загрузить в App Store”. Далее следует произвести инсталляцию при помощи магазина приложений. При первом входе в Гугл Дуо необходимо:

1. Ввести номер телефона и нажать “Принять”.
2. Вписать код, которой придет на телефон через обычное СМС.
3. Если имеется учетная запись в системе Google, тогда следует нажать “Принять”.
4. Дайте доступ на запрашиваемые запросы.

После установки программы, люди, у которых сохранен ваш номер телефона или электронный адрес от Gmail, получат уведомление о том, что теперь вы пользуетесь Гугл Дуо.

Step 2: Verify your phone number (optional)

Important: If you skip this step and you don’t verify your phone number, you can only receive calls from people who you’ve previously called.

1. Enter your phone number.
2. Click Get verification code.
3. Duo will send a code to the number that you entered via a one-off SMS message. (Your operator’s text-messaging rates may apply.)
4. Enter the code that you receive in the text message.
   • If you don’t receive a text message, click Resend. 
   • If you still don’t receive a text message, click Back  to confirm that you’ve entered your phone number correctly.

Linux Clients

Install DuoConnect

1. Download the latest DuoConnect Installer for Linux on your computer while logged in as a user with sudo permission.
2. Open up a terminal window and navigate to the directory where you downloaded the DuoConnect installer gz file.

3. In your terminal window type the following command to unpack the installer:

   Note that the filename may differ slightly from this example to reflect the most recent version.

1. Open your ~/.ssh/config file in a text editor. If you don’t have this file, create it.
2. Copy and paste in the DuoConnect connection strings you received from your Duo administrator into the end of your config file.

3. Repeat these steps for all SSH servers provided to you by your Duo administrator.
4. Save the ~/.ssh/config file.

Start a video or voice call

Make sure you have the latest version of the Duo app and you’re running Android 7.0 and up.

1. On your Android device, open the Duo app.
2. Swipe up to find your contacts, then tap a name to call.
3. Choose Video call or Voice call .
4. When done, tap End call .

If you have a Google Home device connected to your Duo account, you can call it from the app:

1. On your Android device, open the Duo app.
2. At the top of your contact list, tap Call Home.

Duo will call any Google Home device you’re signed in to, like Smart Displays with Google Assistant.

Important: Your Google Assistant language must be set to English US, English UK, Canadian English, or French Canadian.

Start a group video call

You can have up to 32 participants in a group video call on Duo.

Create a group

1. On your Android phone, open the Duo app.
2. On the screen, swipe up.
3. Tap Create group.
4. Choose your contacts.
5. Tap Video call .

Tip: You can name the group when you create it or when the call is done. To name the group, tap the pencil icon, enter a name, and tap Save. Everyone in the group will see the name.

Share a link to start a group call

1. On your Android device, open the Duo app.
2. Swipe up and tap Create group.
3. Tap Next or Done.
4. To share the link or add contacts, tap Share .
   • If the recipient clicks the link on a computer, it opens duo.google.com.
   • If the recipient taps the link on mobile and has Duo installed, it opens Duo.
   • If the recipient taps the link on mobile and Duo isn’t installed, it opens the Duo listing on the Play Store.
5. Tap Start video call.

Call an existing group or join a live group call

1. On your Android phone, open the Duo app.
2. On the screen, swipe up.
3. Under “Groups,” choose to call a group or join a live group, if available. If “Live” is under the group name, the call is live and you can join.
   • To call an existing group, tap the group name Start Video call .
   • To join a live group call, tap the group name Join Video call .

Add members, rename a group, or leave a group

1. Open the Duo app and swipe up on the screen.
2. Under “Groups,” tap a group More .
3. Choose an option and follow the instructions on the screen.

Make calls from other apps

You can make Google Duo calls from other apps.

If your carrier has its own video-calling feature:

• If you and the person you’re calling have the same carrier, the call might use your carrier’s video service.
• If you have different carriers, the call will use Google Duo.

Call from the Phone app

To use Duo with the Phone app, make sure you have version 13.0 and up.

1. Open the Phone app .
2. Open call history.
3. Choose a contact.
4. Tap Video call .
5. When done, tap End call .

Call from the Contacts app

To use Duo with the Contacts app, make sure you have version 2.1 and up.

1. Open the Contacts app .
2. Open a contact’s info card.
3. Tap Video call .
4. When done, tap End call .

Call from the Messages app

To use Duo with the Messages app, make sure you have version 2.6 and up.

1. Open the Messages app .
2. Open a Messages conversation.
3. Tap Video call .
4. When done, tap End call .

Call from the Google Assistant

You can start a Duo video call by saying or typing:

• «Duo call .»
• «Video call .»

Fix problems with calls

• Make sure you have the latest version of Duo installed.
• Check that you’ve registered Duo:

Can’t make video calls

If you’re on Android 8.0 and up, sync your Duo settings. Tap Settings Users & Accounts Duo  Account sync  More  Sync now.

Can’t find effects or filters

If you can’t find effects or filters, you might have an older version of Android. These features work only on Android 9 and up. ⁠Learn how to check your Android version.

Not getting call notifications

Make sure you have the latest version of the app and are connected to Wi-Fi or a data connection. Learn more about other troubleshooting steps for notifications.

Step Seven: Configure Device Options (optional)

You can use Device Options to give your phone a more descriptive name, or you can click Add another device to start the enrollment process again and add a second phone or another authenticator.

If this is the device you’ll use most often with Duo then you may want to enable automatic push requests by changing the When I log in: option and changing the setting from «Ask me to choose an authentication method» to «Automatically send this device a Duo Push» or «Automatically call this device» and click Save. With one of the automatic options enabled Duo automatically sends an authentication request via push notification to the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone or a phone call to your device (depending on your selection).

Click Continue to login to proceed to the Duo Prompt.

Passcodes

Tap the down indicator to get a one-time passcode for login. This works anywhere, even in places where you don’t have an internet connection or can’t get cell service.

If the account is a Duo native account (meaning you ), then the passcode shown is valid until used. Tap the arrows to generate a new Duo passcode.

If the account is a third-party OTP account (meaning you logged into another service like Gmail and added this device as an authenticator app), then you’ll see a 30 second countdown indicator on the right. If you don’t use that passcode before it expires then a new passcode is generated and the countdown begins again.

If you need to use the passcode from Duo Mobile in another mobile app simply tap the passcode to copy the currently shown code and paste it into the other app.

Software Updates

You may be prompted to update outdated browser or plugin software when authenticating if your organization enabled this feature. You can take a few minutes to update your web browser, Flash, or Java version to the most recent before authenticating, or choose to update later and continue on to the protected resource.

If your organization blocks access to Duo-protected resources from devices with outdated browsers or plugins, then you may not complete two-factor authentication until you update your software.

Your administrator may also choose to block access from certain computer and mobile operating systems. In this case, you must upgrade your OS to an allowed version or switch to a different device.

Activating Offline Access with Duo Mobile

To activate Duo Mobile for offline access:

1. Select Duo Mobile Passcode and click Activate Now to begin setting up offline access (or click Enroll later (May prevent offline login) to set it up another time).

Scan the activation QR code using the Duo Mobile app installed on your iOS or Android device. Tap the + in the app to begin adding the account.

Duo Mobile saves the new account information and prompts you to verify the name for this computer. Tap SAVE COMPUTER NAME to continue.

Once Duo Mobile completes activation you’ll need to enter a code from the app into the prompt on your Windows system to complete offline activation. Tap TAKE ME TO MY OFFLINE CODE.

Tap the WINDOWS OFFLINE account in the Duo Mobile account list to generate a six digit passcode.

Enter the passcode from Duo Mobile (without a space) into the offline activation screen on your computer and then click the Activate Offline Login button to finish setting up offline access.

Reactivating Offline Access

If you need to add the Windows Offline account to Duo Mobile on a different phone than you originally used for activation, you can do this from the online Duo MFA prompt.

1. With the Windows computer connected to the internet, log in with your username and password.
2. Click the Replace/Reconnect an offline device link on the left side of the Duo prompt to begin. If your Duo for Windows Logon application is configured to autpmatically send a push request to your phone, you can cancel the authentication in progress and click the link on the left (don’t approve the request on your phone).

Next, you’ll need to complete Duo authentication. Click on an available method and approve the login request.

Continue the by scanning the QR code with Duo Mobile on the replacement phone and entering the verification code when prompted, just like the first time you activated an offline access device.

Manage Existing Devices

Click the Device Options button next to any of your enrolled devices to view the actions available for that type of device. You can Reactivate Duo Mobile for an enrolled smartphone, Change Device Name for any type of phone, or delete any authentication device.

Reactivate Duo Mobile

Click the Reactivate Duo Mobile button if you need to get Duo Push working on your phone, for example, if you replaced your phone with a new model but kept the same phone number. After answering some questions about your device, you’ll receive a new QR code to scan with your phone, which will complete the Duo Mobile activation process.

Change Device Name

Clicking Change Device Name will open up an interface to change the display name of your phone (hardware tokens can’t be renamed). Type in the new name and click Save.

After successfully modifying your phone’s name, not only will you see this from now on when managing devices, but it will also be how your phone is identified in the authentication dropdown.

Remove Device

Click the trash can button to delete a phone or token device.

Note: You may not remove your last device. If you wish to remove it, first add another, then delete the original. If you are unable to delete a device, contact your administrator to have it removed.

You are given the chance to confirm or cancel deleting the authentication device.

The device is deleted. It can no longer be used to approve Duo authentication requests.

Adding a Security Key From the Duo Prompt

If you previously enrolled other devices in Duo, you can easily add your new security key as an additional authenticator as long as your administrator has enabled Duo’s self-service portal.

Navigate to your Duo-protected service and log in. At the Duo Prompt you’ll see an Add a new device link on the left. Click it and approve the Duo login request using your already enrolled phone or other device.

Proceed with the security key enrollment process as shown above in .

You’ve added your security key (in this example, a security key from Yubico)! It is listed with your other enrolled devices.

Authenticating with a Security Key

The next time you log on using Duo, you can simply tap or insert your security key to log in. Some types of keys flash as a prompt for you to authenticate.

You do not need to explicitly select the security key from the drop-down list of available devices to use it for authentication in Chrome or Edge if you also enrolled it in one of those browsers.

In other browsers, you may need to select your security key from the drop-down list of your authentication devices.

Once you select your security key from the list, click Use Security Key and tap your security key when prompted.

При нажатии на кнопку вызова появляется всплывающее окно со списком контактов. Duo автоматически анализирует адресную книгу на мобильном устройстве и определяет те из них, у которых уже установлен этот мессенджер. Такие контакты закрепляются в начале списка. Остальным приложение предлагает отправить SMS-приглашение для установки программы. А что же делать, если нужно позвонить человеку, которого нет среди ваших контактов? Таким пользователям Duo также можно позвонить по номеру телефона, который необходимо ввести вручную в строке поиска. 

В режиме видеозвонка интерфейс приложения слегка меняется. Как и в любом другом мессенджере основную часть экрана занимает изображение звонящего, появляются дополнительные кнопки: Bluethooth (если вы пользуетесь соответствующей гарнитурой), микрофон и кнопка переключение фронтальной и основной камеры. 

Настроек в приложении немного: есть возможность включить вибрацию при соединении, ограничить использование мобильных данных, удалить привязку своего номера телефона на случай, если вы поменяли сим-карту или передумали пользоваться мессенджером. Помимо этого, есть список заблокированных номеров, куда можно заносить нежелательные контакты.

Первый запуск

После установки и запуска приложения, понимаешь, что простота – главный конек приложения. Что мы обычно ожидаем от очередного сервиса Google? Регистрации и обязательной привязки к учетной записи Google. Но на удивление в Duo такого нет. Более того, не нужно проходить регистрацию: никаких логинов и паролей, электронных адресов с активацией учетки и прочей информации. Все, что от вас требуется — это ввести свой номер телефона, за которым и будет закреплен мессенджер. Если вы ранее пользовались WhatsApp, то такая процедура будет вам знакомой. В этом плане Duo оставляет далеко позади такие аналоги, как Facetime, Skype, Hangouts и многие другие. Установка проходит быстрее и проще. Это безусловное преимущество нового сервиса.
